You’re not being appropriately thrifty

I went for a walk down past the White House and along the National Mall today. Lovely stuff, and I’ll post some more photos soon. But in the meantime, spotted this sign a street over from the White House:

The Office of Thrift Supervision? Wtf?! It is apparently a real thing, a government agency that’s paid by banks… to regulate banks. I can’t decide what’s worse, the name or that funding model. My extensive research tells me that the “OTS” has a fairly dodgy reputation. I say a simple name change could be a good start on the path to improving that. “Offce of Thrift Supervision” conjures up images of crazy dragons in the basement being all anal about accounting for paperclip usage. Mmm thrift?
